Field Work is Open!

Field Work opened this weekend and has already had a steady stream of customers. Thank you to everyone involved and all those that helped with the set up, especially Emily, Lizzie and Laura. Another massive thank you to Victoria Nelmes for the window dressing and amazing tinsel extravaganza outside. Photographer Victoria Siddle came down on Saturday to take some shots, go to her blog to see more images. We will post others throughout the week. We are open until 7pm on Sunday 18th. We hope you can make it down!

Field Work no.3 Roll Call

Jazmine Miles-Long will be returning to Field Work this December with a new array of sea bird taxidermy. Huw Griffith will be showing a selection of antiques and re-worked mirrors. We will have knits from Shipping Forecast, all made with British Wool. Kirsten Hecktermann is joining us again with her beautiful hand carved wooden and bone spoons. We will have screwdrivers from Elementary Design. Neal Jones is exhibiting paintings, prints and mobiles. Kitty Farrow Press have produced a selection of hand made books and notepads for Field Work. There will be more unusual gift ideas from The Fancy Goods Shop sourced from distant shores, alongside treasure Hinshelwood de Borman picked up in Mexico. Kate Morrell joins us at this Field Work with her flint pieces, prints and jewelry. We have some beautiful hand painted tin ware from Pakistan including trunks and jugs. We will have a selection of jewelry from London designer Ivy Nixon. Alongside all of this will of course be printed textiles and more from us, Caitlin Hinshelwood and Rose de Borman. Rose has produced lots of beautiful new hand painted silk cushions depicting a wide menagerie of creatures for the shop and Caitlin has plenty of new textiles including her Cosmonaut Cushions.

Field Work is open

Field Work no.2 is now open for business. The opening night was a huge success and thank you to everyone that came down for it. The shop will be coming down at 6pm this Sunday so make sure you come and take a look at all the treats on offer before then. You can read a glowing review of the shop here in Amelia's Magazine. Field Work featuring... Elementary Design

Field Work will be stocking these rather nice screwdriver sets by Elementary Design. These unique screwdrivers are made in their small London workshop and are copies of two originals made by a cabinet maker who was unable to find a set of modern tipped screwdrivers that met his requirements for quality, comfort and simplicity. Only about a week to go and counting to Field Work and Weird Folk! We have listed a few of the people who will be taking part below, with a little bit about them. There will be others, and of course plenty from us- Caitlin Hinshelwood and Rose de Borman.

In case you don't know..
We are both textile designers by training (Brighton University). We both work independently as freelance designers, (..illustrators, painters and everything in between.) However we frequently sell our textile homeware products and portfolio designs side by side, as Hinshelwood de Borman. We have been working hard and have lots of new things to showcase in the shop!

Weird Folk is the exhibition we're holding in Field Work's gallery downstairs.

Neal Jones, Betsy Dadd and Max Wade are all London based artists. We chose them to show together because of a shared warmth, humanity, playfulness and sensitive use of colour in their work. They will be showing a range of new paintings prints and objects and there will also be a stand of additional drawings and prints for sale in the shop.

FANCY GOODs SHOP was set up by (me), Rose de Borman and is a selection of mainly hand made products, with a folk art leaning from around the world. It is a new venture (set up with the idea of helping to fund my travels to new places) and Field Work will be their first proper outing.

Field Work Featuring... Huw Griffith

Huw Griffith is an antiques dealer and designer. Broadly his work involves reworking antiques, (commonly 19th Century mirrors) by adding old textiles, painting, and generally reinventing overlooked objects into modern design pieces that are highly in demand. He has worked on a myriad of different projects from top end fashion houses to swanky restaurants, and we are pleased to say he is returning to Field Work for the second time. He will be bringing a range of furniture, paintings, mirrors and possibly some little unexpected curiosities he has picked up along the way.

Kirsten Hecktermann, a textile designer, researcher and maker has designed and commissioned this beautiful range of spoons in bone and locally managed hardwood from Africa. Hinshelwood de Borman are very pleased to be stocking a selection at Field Work 2.

Field Work Pop Up Shop and Gallery

We're starting a new pop up shop and gallery called 'Field Work' in an unused shop on Hanbury Street, off Brick Lane. The opening night is 29th October and we will be open over the weekend. The upstairs shop features textiles, homeware, taxidermy, antiques, artists books, gift cards and the like. Downstairs is a gallery space with prints and works on paper for sale too.
